This is a 6.5x14 Player Date 1 snare with a mahogany shell, and the finish is walnut stain. These drums can be seen being played out by the drummers for The Shins, My Morning Jacket, and Modest Mouse, amongst others. The 1' shorter depth of the toms allows for lower tuning ranges than standard sizes, without bottoming out or sounding flat.
These allow the drums to be tuned extra low, and give them plenty of range and warmth. All Player Dates feature C&C double-ended center lugs and 'full contact' bearing edges, which resemble 50s Gretsch edges. The Player Date 1 series are built with all luan mahogany shells, and the Player Date 2 series are built with maple/mahogany shells. Meant to be a more affordable, yet still high quality series of drums, Player Dates are available in a handful of different size configurations and finishes (mahogany lacquer, honey lacquer, walnut lacquer, green sparkle wrap, and silver sparkle wrap, to name a few).
Taking their cue from the drum shells that started it all in the 50s and 60s, C&C Player Date series drums are being built by the same crew, and in the same shop as their highly regarded custom series.
